Give Me a Heart for Souls

I have been so foolish. I have been so blind. The enemy deceived me into believing that my life, my accomplishments, and the selfish desires of my sinful heart were somehow more important than the eternal destiny of souls. For so long, I sought more for myself while giving little thought to the souls of men and women who are perishing every day.

And isn’t this what is fundamentally wrong with much of the church today? We have become so consumed with enjoying the blessings of God for ourselves that we often forget those around us who are desperate, hurting, and lost. Children are going to bed hungry, some even sleeping in cars. Veterans are left without roofs over their heads. Innocent lives are being destroyed in the very place that should be safest—the mother’s womb. Meanwhile, we busy ourselves chasing after the next luxury car or the next earthly status symbol.

But worst of all, almost every person we encounter daily is heading toward an eternity without Christ—an eternity of separation, torment, and fire. Eternal damnation is real, and tragically, it is where countless souls—including our very own friends and family—are headed while we sit back in silence and do nothing.

It is time for the church to wake up. It is time for me to wake up. That’s what this entire author ministry is about. This is my awakening. At last, I see it clearly, and I fall before God asking Him to forgive me. I am pleading with Him to give me a heart that breaks for souls.

My prayer is that the books I write—through the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit—will not just entertain, but will set captives free, deliver those in bondage, and point men and women to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus, I ask that You would use me, even in my weakness, to lead people to realize their desperate need for You. May they come to know Your love, Your mercy, and Your gift of eternal life. Let it be, Lord. Please, let it be.
