The Enemy Comes to Steal, Kill, and Destroy
In John 10:10, Jesus warns us plainly:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
We do not like to think about it, but the truth is this: we have an enemy. He is real, and he has one purpose — to ruin the lives of God’s children. Every heartache, every misfortune, every destructive habit, every broken relationship — they are the fingerprints of the thief who seeks to rob us of peace, joy, and faith.
The devil delights in bringing pain and loss. He schemes against us, whispers lies into our ears, and tempts us to turn away from God. Worst of all, when we walk in disobedience, we are actually giving him the worship he craves.
But Jesus Came to Give Us Life
The story doesn’t end with the enemy. Jesus Himself declared that He came so that we might have life — not just survival, but abundant life. This is not a life free from trials, but a life overflowing with peace, hope, and restoration in the middle of them.
Jesus heals what the enemy has broken. Scripture is filled with His promises of comfort and renewal:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners.” (Isaiah 61:1, fulfilled in Luke 4:18)
These verses remind us that no matter what the enemy tries to destroy, Jesus is greater. He is our healer, our restorer, and the giver of eternal life.
Who Will You Follow?
The thief comes to steal, but Jesus comes to give. The enemy brings death, but Christ brings abundant life. The choice before us each day is simple: Will we obey God and live under His blessing, or will we continue in disobedience and, in doing so, honor the one who hates us most?
If you are brokenhearted today, take courage. The same Jesus who conquered death promises to heal your wounds. Call on Him, lean on His Word, and trust that He will bring life where the enemy brought destruction.
A Prayer for the Brokenhearted
Heavenly Father, I come to You with my pain and heartache. I know the enemy seeks to destroy me, but I thank You that Jesus came to give me abundant life. Lord, heal my broken heart. Bind up my wounds. Fill me with Your peace, Your hope, and Your joy. I choose to trust You and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Thank You for loving me, restoring me, and never leaving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
